JOB SUMMARY:

Scotiabank’s Enterprise Cloud & Computer Operations’ (ECCO) Database Architecture, Engineering & Support team takes care of end to end data platform support for Microsoft data platform products across the globe where Scotiabank is present. Physical & logical database services, from deployment, project support and after go live steady state support is the essence of what we do.

Located in the King Street West & Bathurst Street area of Toronto & reporting to the DBA Manager, the Database Analyst Advisory would be supporting the MS SQL & some Postgres database environment.  As a member of the database administration group, the Database Analyst Advisory will assist in the team effort to maximize the availability, security, and performance of the databases.

The Database Analyst Advisory is required to be on-call for rotational after-hours support of the bank’s databases.  The Database Analyst Advisory must be prepared to provide remote dial-in support, or occasionally on-site support in response to routine monitoring alerts and scheduled & unscheduled maintenance tasks occurring after hours and on week-ends.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Configuration planning & deploying MS SQL servers on cloud and on premise servers.

• Performance and general health / capacity monitoring.

• Tuning and load balancing of servers.

• Do routine maintenance including database rebuilds/re-indexing/expansion and archiving.

• Trouble-shoot MS SQL server problems, and assist in the resolution of application problems.

• Server upgrades/migrations.

• Assist in database code promotions & data fixes.

• Disaster Recovery/High Availability (DR/HA), backup & recovery of local and remote replicated databases.

• Provide DBA support to development/implementation projects as assigned, doing installations, database loading, migrations, testing, etc.

• Follow change control and prepare documentation.



KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• You have at least 5+ years of progressive technical working experience as a Database Administrator.

• You possess sound practical working knowledge of:

- MSSQL Server 2017/2016/2014/2012 DB Administration

- Windows Servers, versions 2012 and up and Windows Client

- Linux

- Azure IaaS, MI and DBaaS data platform deployment and tools

- AD, Firewall IP/Port, domain trust/authentication methods

- MSSQL Instance/Database Installation/Configuration/Hardening

- Stored Procedures performance optimization and troubleshooting

- Application side tuning vs. server side tuning

- Setup MSSQL Always-On & Database Replication

- Data Encryption & Masking

- Database Re-build / De-fragment techniques

- Logical & Physical Backup/Recovery/Compression techniques

- MSSQL Services (SSRS/SSAS/SSIS/PolyBase, R Service etc.)

- ETL/OLAP

- Power BI

• You have good analytical, problem solving, trouble shooting and automation skills.

• You are a quick learner, with good interpersonal and communication (verbal/written) skills.

• Experience with the following would be an asset: Postgres (PostgreSQL), Cosmos, .NET, ASP, C#, Power shell, Linux shell scripting & NoSQL database system.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Math, or related discipline.

• MCSE Data Platform certification is desired for this role
