Design Researcher

About the Design Researcher

-You have an endless fascination with the way people interact with technology and a passion to help designers and engineers improve and create exceptional user experiences.

-You are a self-starter who can work collaboratively to budget and who can scope and schedule user testing on an ongoing, regular basis. You are practiced at creating protocols and moderating ad-hoc and formal usability tests.

-Within the Design Community of Practice, you are responsible for the understanding of customer experience journeys and to develop appropriate test plans in support of their objectives.

-You’ll be required to identify and recommend research methodologies; for example, you may need to use card sorting, benchmarks, gap analysis, surveys, heuristic reviews, competitive reviews, user interviews, check-ins or other techniques to understand how our customers experience our products and services.

-You have amazing verbal and written presentation skills. You are able to stitch together video clips, soundbites, data points and trends to communicate clear, concise findings and actionable recommendations to all kinds of audiences, including designers, technologists, product managers and executives.

-You are willing to be hands-on and to help build the Digital Factory research practice from the ground-up. Further, you are comfortable working in a self-guided manner with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage your own time efficiently, without direct input or oversight.

-You are open, persuasive, engaging and love to have a good laugh.

About the Day to Day as a Researcher

-Design and conduct qualitative research of different scope, using techniques such as interviews, dynamics with users, observation method, inhouse visits, usability studies, etc.

-Structuring and performing analytical reports of quantitative research to validate hypotheses and evaluate the effectiveness of the user experience around banking products.

-Synthesize findings and generate insights that inform business decisions, through good storytelling in presentations and reports, helping to define the roadmap, vision and strategy of the products.

-Create new research tools that allow us to consult and manage insights generated over time, that settle on the creation and improvements in the value offers of our products.

-Generate national and international benchmarks on technology and innovation in the financial and alternative sectors.

-Manage and moderate workshops and co-creation sessions with multi-disciplinary teams, stakeholders and clients.

-Train different teams on research and mentoring techniques in internal research processes.

Expected Skills & Competencies

-5+ years of proven experience executing usability studies to evaluate complex workflows across software interfaces on desktop, mobile, and web; advanced understanding of Human Factors and HCI

-Must have a strong desire to try out new testing methods and to incorporate both qualitative and quantitative methods as required.
-Post-secondary education in Design, Service Design, Design Strategy, Human Factors, Human Computer Interactions or a related field.

-Expert-level proficiency in Morae (or other enterprise-wide usability testing software application) as well as remote-testing techniques.

-High-level of proficiency in Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and the ability to create your own research reports in a highly visual and understandable manner.

-Manage Design Research & Usability tools/techniques such as: Atomic Research, Design Sprint. Fast Research, Research Sprint

-A demonstrable history of applying design thinking tenants and user centered design principles to challenges at work or in everyday life.

-A positive and resilient personality. You must be able to embrace feedback and have a desire for continuous iteration and improvement.

Bonus Skills and Interests

-Demonstrated interest in tangential fields such as visual design, product design, design research, big data, fine art, music, writing and communications, etc.
